Level III

Goal 4 - Promote and model digital citizenship and Christian discipleship within the context of the digital age

Example 1:
Early in my graduate program at Concordia University, I wrote a paper about values and technology. In that paper, I discussed my top values and how they influence my technology use, as well as my school’s top values and how those values are reflected by my school’s policies and procedures. Lastly, I gave recommendations for how my school could look differently if their technology integration choices matched their values. Specifically, I stated that “If WMIS’ technology use matched its values, my school would pick a method, such as Google Docs, to complete collaborative tasks, so that all teachers could give their input. Teachers could then complete collaborative tasks at their convenience, and all information could be saved and easily shared with colleagues and administration.” Recently, in order to make those changes that I recommended, I created these Google Docs in order to collaborate about school-wide management policies and procedures. This artifact meets Goal 4 because I used what I knew about values correlating with technology use in order to create and implement a new digital procedure for collaboration within my school.

Example 2:
This artifact is a picture of me interacting with parents at a program at my school, called Monday Meet and Eat. The Meet and Eat that I attended was focused on technology. At this Meet and Eat, I addressed concerns and risks associated with the rise of social networking capabilities. To go along with my presentation, I used a Prezi presentation on Cyber-bullying to stimulate discussion. This artifact meets Goal 4 because it shows that I can use what I know about digital citizenship to inform parents, and to help them teach their children how to safely participate in an online environment.
